Moooooving right along!
Hi!
The title is totally misleading, we haven't bought a cow (not planning on it either lol) but its sort of country so I thought I would go with a theme.
We made a little bit more progress this week. We actually got the new ride on mower delivered. It came with a little trailer too so there was much excitement from the kids. Our oldest boy 13, wants to be the mower man. The little ones just want to climb all over it so they had a great time when we let him take the little ones for a ride in the trailer around the yard ( no blades on).
We have had more rain over the last week. One day was really heavy with 70mm! I think thats alot so hopefully I dont have that wrong and look like a complete dork with that there exclamation mark haha. I haven't even gone out to see if the block has been slashed because I can't imagine he could do it yet, far too wet.
We had a bit of a disaster on the weekend with a trip to get fire wood for the first time around here. We took wrong turns and went down some questionable roads. I say questional because we argued, I said this is not a road, he said it was...I was right and its lucky we had the 4 wheel drive haha. We ran out of time in the end and the kids were hungry, I was squashed between 2 car seats and we had a wet pants accident so I politely asked we return home (please). Himself and the boy went out the next day and struck gold only to have his chain saw crap itself so back to the lawnmower shop he went yesterday to buy a new one...its been an expensive week.
The next things on my mind/list are the choice of cooker in the new house and starting to get water tank and shed quotes. After speaking to the builder about septics and stuff this week he informed us the plans are at the draftsman now so I better start getting everything ready to go for the bank once the building contract is ready :/
Ok, talk soon!

How did I get this old?!
Hi!
Rain. Its seems like it has rained for days. We cant get the slashing done until it stops raining. I dont why I am bothered, the land just sits there but , you know, I want to see it done.
Today my oldest daughter 14 started her first day at work. She has gotten herself a little job at the local supermarket. I didnt really hit me until after I dropped her of I must be getting old haha. Seriously though, I did think about how lucky it was we decided to move when we
did, from a timing sense with the older two. We might have had less cooperation from them if we had waited another 12 months and they had little jobs and (gulp) even boyfriends and girlfriends to leave behind. She is at the younger end to be getting a job and my husband thinks she's too young but she's mature and I think it's good for kids, to learn to be responsible for themselves.
My daughter is responsible towards school but school is something you have to attend, if you dont do something there is a punishment but the world keeps turning. With work, if you don't go for example you dont get paid and you will lose your job. Also she is at the age where she wants things and in my opinion the next couple of years will have a lot to do with her attitude towards life and money. I hope it shows her you can have anything you want if you work and save and pay for it. What I hope she learns by her earning her own money is that you dont get things by staying home and sticking your hand out to Mum and Dad.
The other thing I hope it teaches her is that she doesnt want to spend her life working in retail. I have worked in retail my entire life and although I have always enjoyed my job the pay for the ridiculous hours you work on a salary is terrible but more so the unsociable hours, nights and weekends. There is a lot to be said for Monday to Friday in my opinion.
I hope she enjoys it and learns some good life skills, and I hope it inspires her to work hard at school to achieve her goals beyond school.

The Road To Home
Hi all
Not much to report this week. We are still working on things on paper and no movement in real life except the block will be getting slashed this week once the rain stops. It is only a small thing but I am actually looking forward to seeing it all cut and neat. When we bought the land it was summer and quite dry looking but now with the winter rain its green as can be and the grass has quickly grown to knee height. I have an image in my mind of how beautiful a green grass acre will look so lets hope it lives up to that! As you can see above I have just taught myself (after several tries and much frustration )how to add pictures so I will try and get one of it looking all neat and pretty. .
I visited the block a couple of days ago to find a herd of cows alongside and a couple of cheeky ones had wandered through the open fences to have a munch. It was actually pretty cool, the kids loved it. Who would have thought 12 months ago we would own an acre and the kids would be yelling "there's moomoos on there Mum Haha!
Next things on the list are to buy a ride on mower to keep up to all this grass and tank and shed quotes.
The picture above I found on a real estate site and is of the road leading in to town...beautiful...

The begining...
Hi!
Well, where do I begin, because you have kind of missed the begining...
About a year ago we decided to make a change, a big change. We had been back in the suburbs about 8 years after a few years in the country and we always knew we wanted to head back at some stage. Last year we knew it was time to make the move on that "one day" dream and actually do it.
Why not we thought? People do it all the time. Don't they? It was so hard. Such a huge decision to make . Even though we kept coming up with what ifs? and are we making a huge mistake, were we ruining our entire financial future selling up to move? Should we keep the house, rent it out and have a back up plan, a return to sender? Would we get enough to make the dream reality? We decided it was worth the risk, things couldnt get any worse than they were for us because we were miserable. Financially we were fine but in terms of quality of life and family time we were very very poor.
After a year of spending weekends driving back and forth to Western Australia's beautiful south west, a few false starts and change of heart on locations , one day we drove into a small town ...
The word town may be a little of an exaggeration. Its a tiny place. To reach it you travel down a beautiful tree lined country road. With the late summer sun shining through the trees we were captivated. This was it...
So , we sold our house in the suburbs, I took a career break from my job (hopefully never to return), we found a house to rent just down the road in the next also beautiful town and we have just bought an acre of green green heaven. We have just finished working on a plan for our new house and we are on our way to the good life...the good life on a budget
I have been keeping a track of things in my phone diary so I decided to start a blog to keep a record of our journey.
Xx
